You really, really want Google to be your friend. But not your only friend.

      By admin,

      May 27, 2015

Chances are, no matter how “optimized” your business website is, almost any group of search terms that includes your site in Google’s results will include a bunch of your competitors, too.

We recently blogged about why, if you count on your website as a lead generator, a direct sales outlet, or just a key ingredient in your brand building efforts, you want Google to be your friend. We dealt mostly with changes at Google favoring mobile-friendly sites, but the bigger message is that if prospective customers can’t find you on the web, you’re losing a lot of business.

Google has info on about 30 trillion unique pages.

So, of course, doing all you can to grab the high ground on Google is a no-brainer. Making your site mobile-friendly makes sense, and investing brain time in keeping your content SEO-ready (or paying a search-algorithm fan to do it for you) is also totally worth it.

But there’s another tried-and-true, one-click avenue that can jumpstart your motivated-visitors numbers…with no search engines required.

SocMediaProgTrends440-500A strategically smart, well managed social media program can deliver motivated customers straight to your website. By creating a stream of prospects that bypasses the search engines, hitting the ever-changing SEO hot buttons day-by-day is considerably less crucial.

      Social media.
      It’s the new word-of-mouth.
      And more.

Basic marketing wisdom says the best advertising is word-of-mouth – the enthusiastic exuberance satisfied customers share with family, friends and neighbors. When your customers talk about how much they like you, you get new customers.

Today, that’s the “stuff” of social media.

A coordinated presence on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram can spotlight your business and put your site a single click or tap away… without putting you on a list with all your competitors.

      So what’s the catch?
      (There’s always a catch, right?)

Yep. Your social posts have to be interesting. But that can be defined a millions ways – from funny or cute to intriguing or informative. Equally interesting photos or graphics also help a lot.

And there’s a bonus. As “word of mouse” passes from friend to friends through “likes” and “shares” and “retweets”, every mention helps move your site up in Google’s search results.

      Win. Win.
